International Men’s Day 2025: International Men's Day comes along each year to help people stop and take a closer look at the lives of men and boys. The 2025 observance continues to serve that purpose, providing space to talk about well-being, responsibility and the importance of positive support systems. At a time when conversations are increasingly focused on mental health and gender balance, the day encourages honest reflection about experiences that men navigate every day.
In 2025, it will fall on Wednesday, 19 November. The date is the same each year, providing a fixed moment for communities all over the world to highlight men and boys contributions and reflect upon the many pressures facing them.
It was initiated in 1999 in Trinidad and Tobago by Dr Jerome Teelucksingh, who decided to choose 19 November in celebration of his father and a significant day in the sporting calendar of Trinidad and Tobago. What began as a locally driven initiative has now spread to more than 80 countries around the world.
It is guided by six major pillars including promoting positive male role models, improving physical & mental health and encouraging balanced gender relations. It also seeks to raise awareness of the various forms of discrimination that men may face and advocates equal opportunities for the growth and development of men and boys.
The main theme for 2025 is “Celebrating Men and Boys.” It celebrates their contribution at home, in workplaces, and across society. Some countries, like Australia and the UK, are also supporting the message “Supporting Men and Boys,” promoting open conversations on emotional health and encouraging better support networks.
Many global initiatives this year are centred around reducing male suicide through campaigns linked to "Zero Male Suicide," making mental health support more accessible and less stigmatised.
In countries around the world, events take the form of awareness campaigns, school activities, panel discussions, and workplace conversations on emotional well-being. Many communities take time to honor individuals who are contributing meaningfully, reinforcing compassion and responsibility.
While both observances are interested in building equality, International Men's Day zeroes in on the particular realities and concerns of men and boys. It aims for balance, not comparison.
The date reflects Dr Teelucksingh's personal tribute to his father and a moment which symbolised unity in Trinidad and Tobago. Over time, it has developed into a globally recognized marker for appreciation and awareness.
