As Mahalaya 2025 arrives on September 21, devotees across India prepare to welcome the auspicious day with prayers, rituals, and festive cheer. Mahalaya signifies the end of Pitru Paksha and the beginning of Devi Paksha, marking the descent of Goddess Durga to Earth. The occasion is especially significant in Bengal, as it sets the tone for the grand Durga Puja celebrations that follow.
Mahalaya falls on the Amavasya (new moon) of the Ashwin month in the Hindu calendar. On this day, devotees perform Tarpan rituals to honor ancestors and seek their blessings for peace and prosperity. Mahalaya also marks the start of Devi Paksha, the nine-day period leading to Durga Puja. According to tradition, Goddess Durga descends to Earth on this day to destroy evil forces and restore harmony and righteousness.
Sharing wishes and messages with loved ones adds joy to the occasion. Here are some messages to send on Mahalaya 2025:
"Wishing you and your family a blessed Mahalaya filled with joy, peace, and the divine blessings of Maa Durga."
"May the arrival of Maa Durga bring light, happiness, and prosperity into your life. Shubho Mahalaya 2025!"
"On this sacred Amavasya, may Maa Durga guide you towards strength and success."
"Shubho Mahalaya! May the festive season bring happiness, harmony, and endless blessings to your home."

On Mahalaya, devotees perform Tarpan rituals to honor ancestors and seek their blessings. One of the most cherished traditions is listening to the Mahishasura Mardini, a devotional audio program narrating the victory of Goddess Durga over the buffalo demon, Mahishasura. This program is especially significant in Bengal and is often broadcast early in the morning.
Mahalaya is a time to connect with our roots, honor our ancestors, and invite the divine presence of Goddess Durga into our lives. As Devi Paksha begins, the day inspires devotion, positivity, and spiritual reflection. By sending wishes, sharing messages, and celebrating traditions, devotees prepare for the joyous days of Durga Puja ahead.
May Mahalaya 2025 bring peace, prosperity, and spiritual growth to all.
