New Delhi, Oct 2: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday once again took swipe at the Narendra Modi led government at the Centre saying that while thousands of young people are on the streets against vote theft peacefully, without violence, exercising their constitutional rights seeking removal of CEC Gyanesh Kumar the government dragged them off the streets and hundreds are in custody.
He also said that Gyanesh Kumar will go and the system that put him there will go too.
In a post on X in Hindi, Rahul Gandhi said, “Today is Gandhi Jayanti. And today, thousands of young people are on the streets against vote theft peacefully, without violence, exercising their constitutional rights.”
He said that their demand is clear — “Gyanesh Kumar must resign. Save democracy”.
“And the Modi-Shah government’s response? Boys and girls are being dragged off the streets. Hundreds are in custody. Their only crime is that they dared to question vote theft,” he said.
He pointed out that Bapu taught us exactly this – “speak the truth, fight peacefully”.
“And that’s what scares this government the most. Because a lathi can stop a crowd, but not a question. Gyanesh Kumar will go. And the system that put him there will go too,” he added.
His remarks came.e after the sever students group and other opposition parties on Friday staged a protest in the natjonal capital over the SIR row and controversy surrounding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The Delhi Police didn’t gave permission for protest at Jantar Mantar and yet sever students and opposition leaders gathered at the protest site. Police which had already made adequate arrangements and put barricades on the roads leading to Jantar Mantar detained hundreds of protesters.
The Delhi Metro also closed the entry and exit at at least 12 metro stations in the central Delhi to stop the protesters to reach the protest site.
