Teachers play an important role in shaping our future and to honor their hard work, two special days are celebrated – Teachers’ Day in India and World Teachers’ Day. Even though both days focus on teachers, they are different in history, meaning, and purpose.
In India, Teachers' Day is observed on 5th September of every year. This has been fixed as the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the second President of India, renowned philosopher, and honored teacher.
Dr. Radhakrishnan used to think that education is the pillar of society, and he wanted teachers to be considered precious for their contribution. Schools and colleges commemorate this day with cultural programs, speeches, and events where students express gratitude to their teachers.
World Teachers' Day falls on 5th October annually worldwide. It was initiated by UNESCO in 1994 to commemorate the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers.
It's not just a day to celebrate teachers but also a day to talk about their rights, duties, and problems internationally. Various nations conduct events, seminars, and campaigns to reform education systems.
Both the days remind us to value and honor teachers. In India, Teachers' Day reminds us of our great leaders and culture, whereas World Teachers' Day reminds us that teachers are equally valued all over the globe. Both the days remind us of how teachers educate us, motivate us, and prepare us for life.

Though Teachers' Day and World Teachers' Day are not on the same dates, their message remains the same – teachers are the pillars of society. While we observe these days, we do not just thank our teachers but also acknowledge their continuous input to education throughout their lives.
