New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday rejected the bail pleas of Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam in the larger conspiracy case linked to the 2020 Northeast Delhi riots.
A Division Bench of Justice Prathiba M Singh and Justice Dinesh Bhatt passed the order.
This is the third time the Delhi High Court has denied bail to Khalid and Imam in the case.
Khalid and Imam are facing charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in connection with the alleged larger conspiracy behind the riots.
The two accused had approached the High Court after a trial court rejected their bail applications on July 4, 2026.
They relied on recent developments and Supreme Court judgments while seeking fresh relief.
During the hearing, Senior Advocate Trideep Pais, appearing for Umar Khalid, argued that there had been changes in circumstances since the earlier proceedings.
He also pointed out that charges had not yet been framed and the prosecution witnesses were yet to be examined.
The Delhi Police opposed the bail plea.
ASG S.V. Raju argued that the Supreme Court had granted bail to some other accused after an accused-specific assessment and that the cases could not be treated in the same manner.
The High Court ultimately dismissed the bail pleas of both Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam.
