New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell Santner reached the 3,000-run milestone in international cricket on Sunday during the second T20I against Sri Lanka in Dambulla. Captaining the side, Santner scored 19 runs off 24 balls, hitting two boundaries before being dismissed by Matheesha Pathirana.

Santner’s career total now stands at 3,006 runs across 239 matches, averaging 22.94 with one century and seven half-centuries across 191 innings. His highest score is 126. In 29 Tests, he has accumulated 941 runs in 41 innings at an average of 24.12, with a top score of 126, one century, and three fifties. In ODIs, he has scored 1,355 runs in 104 matches, averaging 27.65 with a strike rate over 91, three fifties, and a top score of 67. In 106 T20Is, he has amassed 710 runs at an average of 16.51 and a strike rate nearing 120, including a high score of 77* and one half-century.

As for the match, Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bowl first. New Zealand struggled to build momentum, losing wickets at regular intervals, with Will Young (30 off 32 balls, three fours) and Josh Clarkson (24 off 25 balls, two sixes) making key contributions. New Zealand was bowled out for 108 in 19.3 overs, with standout bowling performances from Wanindu Hasaranga (4/17) and Matheesha Pathirana (3/11). Sri Lanka now needs 109 runs to secure a 2-0 win in the two-match series.
