Disney+ Hotstar made several significant announcements about Indian projects on Friday during the D23 Expo taking place in the US. These include an upcoming television series based on the Mahabharata epic. Two others were Koffee With Karan season 8 and a brand-new show called Showtime.

Madhu Mantena, Mythoverse Studios, and Allu Entertainment will produce the Mahabharata. The Indian mythological epic Maharabharat explores the struggle between justice and wrong as the Kauravas and Paavas engage in combat in the ancient Indian city of Kurukshetra.

The announcement was made during the expo by Gaurav Banerjee, Head of Content for Disney+ Hotstar and HSM Entertainment Network, Disney Star.

Banerjee said at the International Content and Operations session, “There are over a billion people who know the story in some form, or the other. Most of them in my country have heard it as children from their grandparents. There are billions more who remain unaware of what they have been missing. It would indeed be a privilege to be able to bring this incredible story to a wider global audience next year.”
