Four UK returnees have been infected with a new coronavirus strain. This has increased the problems of the state government and the health department. All of them are currently in isolation centres. In the wake of the highly infectious new strain of coronavirus, samples of the infected patients were sent to (CSIR), Delhi for genome sequencing and results confirmed the new coronavirus infection.
“Testing of the people returning from the UK must be done on a priority basis. The department is leaving no stone unturned to defeat the disease,” said Additional Chief Secretary Rajiv Arora. Besides that, directions have been issued to maintain a record so that timely safety measures can be taken, he added. Among the infected patients with the new strain, two hail from Karnal while the other two belong to Rewari and Gurugram. Out of these, one patient belonging to Karnal was an inmate and the other inmates were tested. Later he was shifted to Sangrur, Punjab. According to the information, no one succumbed due to the new strain.
The state government is in touch with the Bureau of Immigration regarding information and data about the people returning from the UK. Besides, proper arrangements are being made to ensure their tracing and tracking.
The state health department succeeded in controlling the disease to some extent, as the recovery rate is about 98% in Haryana. But these cases have put the experts and the government in trouble.
It is pertinent to mention that 11 people returning from the UK were tested Covid positive while the above four were found infected with the new coronavirus strain. In the wake of this, the government has come up with a new strategy and has announced new guidelines. The people who had come in touch with those four were tested. One of the doctors from the state health department said that the new strain is much more deadly, it spreads with high speed causing more harm. Thus, the health department is required to come up with a foolproof strategy to tackle the disease. Besides, around 100 people returning from the UK and the US were also tested.
