Streaming giant Netflix faced a major global outage on Saturday, frustrating thousands of users as they attempted to watch the much-hyped boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul. The livestream disruption marred Netflix’s ambitious move into live sports broadcasting, with many viewers unable to access the feed for the event, which was marketed as one of the biggest boxing spectacles ever streamed.
Massive Outage Reported
Downdetector.com recorded over 85,000 complaints, primarily from U.S. cities like New York, Seattle, and Los Angeles. Social media buzzed with enraged fans, with one user on X writing, “Spent all this money to stream ‘the greatest boxing match ever’ only to crash 3 fights before the main event.” The sell-out crowd of 75,000 at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas, remained unaffected, enjoying the event live as streaming issues persisted.
Netflix has not yet issued a statement addressing the cause of the outage, leaving many users disappointed and questioning the platform’s preparedness for live sports events.
