The National Commission for Women (NCW) addressed the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday, urging action against Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate and party leader HS Ahir for alleged derogatory remarks made on social media about actor Kangana Ranaut, as reported on Tuesday. In its statement, the NCW expressed deep concern over the recent incident involving Shrinate and Ahir, the State Joint Coordinator of Kisan Congress, who allegedly made offensive comments directed at Kangana Ranaut on social media.”The NCW strongly condemns the offensive and disrespectful nature of the remarks made by Ms. Shrinate and Mr. Ahir. Such comments not only undermine the dignity of an individual but also perpetuate a culture of misogyny and disrespect towards women,” stated the commission. NCW Chairperson, Smt. Rekha Sharma, has written to the Election Commissioner of India, urging immediate and stringent action against both individuals. The NCW has demanded a comprehensive report on the actions taken within three days.

Ahir also provided a similar explanation regarding the matter.

While the BJP has called for action from the Congress in response to the issue, the Congress has not yet issued a statement.

Chairperson Rekha Sharma expressed disappointment that a woman would use such derogatory language against another woman. “NCW takes this matter very seriously. We have urged the Election Commission to take strict action against the party and the leader. Two leaders, not just one, have made similar remarks on Twitter and later denied their involvement in the posts. They owe an apology to Kangana,” she stated during a media briefing.
