Nayab Singh Saini has been unanimously elected as the leader of the BJP Legislature Party, paving the way for his appointment as the Chief Minister of Haryana for the second term to the BJP’s third government in a row. The oath ceremony is scheduled for Thursday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with several BJP leaders likely to attend the event. The announcement came on Wednesday following a meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Chandigarh.
“There was a single proposal put forward by Narwana MLA Krishan Bedi, which was seconded by Ambala Cantt MLA Anil Vij in support of Saini,” announced Amit Shah, officially declaring Saini as the leader of the BJP Legislature Party in Haryana in the presence of BJP MLAs and senior leaders.
Senior party leaders, including Amit Shah, caretaker Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Manohar Lal and Rao Inderjit Singh arrived at Raj Bhavan to officially stake the claim for forming the next government.
Elected from Ladwa Assembly Constituency Saini, 54, took over as Chief Minister of Haryana in March, succeeding Manohar Lal, who is now a Union Minister. His appointment was seen as a surprising choice to lead the party in this key heartland state, especially with both the general and Assembly elections approaching.
The BJP secured a third term in the assembly polls in Haryana, results of which were declared on October 8. It won 48 seats against the Congress’ 37 in the 90-member assembly in the state.
During the meeting, Saini expressed his gratitude to the BJP leadership and outlined his vision for Haryana’s future. He said, “It is my privilege to be unanimously chosen as the leader of the BJP Legislature Party. We are committed to serving the 2.80 crore people of Haryana as dedicated workers under the guidance of the most popular leader in the world, Prime Minister Narendra Modi.” He emphasized the party’s mission to make Haryana a “non-stop leading state” under the double-engine government, with a focus on service, good governance, equality, and welfare for the poor.
The BJP’s successful leadership transition, marked by Saini’s elevation, underscores the party’s strong foothold in the state.
Nayab Singh Saini, who will lead Haryana for the third consecutive term, acknowledged the people’s mandate and the vision of Prime Minister Modi. “The people of Haryana have placed their faith in the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and they have resolved to carry forward his vision of a developed India by 2047,” Saini stated.
“I had promised that the results of the recruitment exam for 24,000 youths would be announced first, and only then would I take the oath. Staying true to that commitment, the results will be declared tomorrow. The BJP stands by its word,” he said.
Meanwhile, three independent MLAs — Savitri Jindal from Hisar, Rajesh Joon from Bahadurgarh, and Devender Kadyan from Ganaur — have extended their unconditional support to the BJP Legislative Party. They met the Governor on Wednesday to submit letters of support, further solidifying the party’s position to form the government.
Savitri Jindal, an independent MLA, expressed her confidence in Saini’s leadership, saying in a post on X, “I am supporting the Haryana government without any conditions for the good development of Hisar and Haryana. I trust that Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will ensure the overall progress of the state.” Similarly, Rajesh Joon and Devender Kadyan reiterated their support, citing the BJP’s policies and development agenda as key reasons for backing the party.
