On the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 1999 Kargil War. He laid a wreath at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass, Ladakh. Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan and other armed forces personnel joined in honoring the brave soldiers.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also paid his respects at the National War Memorial in Delhi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the valor of the soldiers, highlighting their bravery in the challenging Himalayan terrain and their role in reasserting India’s sovereignty in Kargil.
Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed annually on July 26, commemorates the success of Operation Vijay, which saw Indian forces reclaim strategic positions from Pakistani infiltrators in Jammu and Kashmir.
In addition, Prime Minister Modi is set to virtually inaugurate the Shinkun La Tunnel Project. This ambitious project includes a 4.1 km long twin-tube tunnel at approximately 15,800 feet altitude on the Nimu-Padum-Darcha Road. Upon completion, it will be the highest tunnel in the world, enhancing connectivity to Leh and supporting both military logistics and regional development in Ladakh.
