CHANDIGARH: The Shiromani Akali Dal (Democratic) on Monday paid obeisance at Gurdwara Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, Sector 15, on the occasion of 100th foundation anniversary of the SAD and prayed for the victory of farmers, who are currently protesting against the farm laws. On this occasion a ‘paath’ was also organised.

Addressing a press conference on the occasion at Chandigarh Press Club, SAD (Democratic) president and Rajya Sabha member Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said that a large number of party workers were involved in the ongoing farmers’ agitation due to which they were not able to attend the press conference.

Responding to questions from the media regarding the alliance with other parties in the upcoming elections, Dhindsa said the party would take a decision in this regard when the elections would approach, but made it clear that his party would not ally with the BJP, Congress and the Badals under any circumstances.

“Alliances with political parties which were in line with the party’s ideology would be considered,” he added. Regarding the upcoming SGPC elections, Dhindsa said that he would not field any person with political clout and interest in politics. He said that politics has no place in religion. Meanwhile, senior party leaders Sewa Singh Sekhwan, Bir Devinder Singh, Ranjit Singh Talwandi, Amarinder Singh also addressed the media.

Party’s chief spokesperson and chairman of the media committee Bir Devinder Singh alleged that Shiromani Akali Dal and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee had been under the control of the Badal family for a long time.
