A group of Muslim religious leaders called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah late last night and raised the issue of violence and hate speech between two groups during Ram Navami.

President of the Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind Maulana Mahmood Madani, secretary Niyaz Faruqui, and members of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Kamal Faruqui and Professor Akhtarul Wasey, led the team.

Taking to the media Niyaz Faruqui said the team brought up 14 issues the nation is now facing. He said recent incidents of communal violence in different parts of the country, including Bihar, West Bengal, and Maharashtra, were discussed.

“Amit Shah was looking calm. He usually gives speeches in support of political causes. “He gave us a nice response, listened to us carefully, and was not in denial mode,” he said.

Violence during Ram Navami occurred in several non-BJP ruled states as well. After that, a war of words started between the BJP and the Opposition. Meanwhile, the saffron party claimed that their processions were attacked; the Opposition reiterated that the BJP was behind the violence to gain political mileage.

Mr Faruqui raised the issue of Bihar’s Biharsharif violence, where a madrasa was set on fire.

Muslim religious leaders also discussed the killing of Junaid and Nasir. They were the residents of Rajasthan’s Bharatpur. Their dead bodies were recovered inside a burnt car at Haryana’s Bhiwani the next morning.

The Muslim leaders also discussed the hate speeches of several BJP leaders. Amit Shah said that there are people of different natures, so everyone can’t be seen in the same way.

Mr Faruqui went on to say that “our goal is to not target any leader; we want cooperation to change the environment in the country.
