Mumbai experienced heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours, resulting in overflowing water in many areas. This led to traffic congestion in some places. Within the past 24 hours, Mumbai recorded 86 mm of rain, causing flooding in the Milan subway in Andheri. Additionally, low-lying areas such as Mumbai Andheri Subway, LBS Marg, Sakinaka 90 Feet Road, Matunga areas of Mahalakshmi, Dadar, Mahim, Dharavi, Paral, Sion, King Circle, Kurla, Chembur, Andheri, Mulund, Dahisar, etc., have been affected by waterlogging, causing significant inconvenience to citizens.
The suffering of the common people has raised questions regarding the responsibility of the ruling party. Despite significant expenditure on drainage work prior to the monsoons, corruption and negligence from the municipal administration are observed. The initial rains have resulted in flooding in many low-lying areas of Mumbai.
This may escalate political tensions surrounding the drainage cleaning before the monsoon season. Congress has demanded accountability for this mismanagement, while Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inspected the cleanliness of major drains in Mumbai ahead of the monsoon.
Mumbai, along with the entire state, has experienced heavy rainfall since Saturday, bringing joy to farmers with the late monsoon’s strong arrival. However, the heavy rain in Mumbai has resulted in water accumulation in multiple areas. There have been reports of house collapses in four different locations in Mumbai. The two days of rain in Mumbai have claimed the lives of six people thus far. The Meteorological Department has forecasted the possibility of continued heavy rain in Mumbai for the next two days and has issued an alert regarding the same.
According to the forecast from the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy rainfall in the coastal areas over the next two days. The department has predicted heavy rain in certain locations in Middle Maharashtra, including Ratnagiri and Mumbai. Therefore, it is advisable for Mumbaikars to carry umbrellas and raincoats when venturing outside to avoid any inconvenience.
Heavy rain warning for two days
The Meteorological Department has reported the formation of a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal. Consequently, heavy rainfall is expected in Konkan, Mumbai, and Middle Maharashtra over the next 48 hours. The Southwest Monsoon is advancing rapidly after a prolonged period and covering an expanding area.
