According to sources, this influential Congress leader from Meghalaya is going to join the TMC soon. At least a dozen Congress MLAs from the northeastern state may join the TMC camp with him.

Mukul Sangma was the Chief Minister of Meghalaya from 2010 to 2016. He is currently the Leader of the Opposition in the state. But why is he mulling to leave the Congress? According to local sources, a month and a half ago, Vincent Pala, a Lok Sabha MP was appointed president of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee, angering Sangma, who got in touch with the TMC after that.

Political analysts believe that if Sangma, an influential leader from the East Garo Hills, leaves the party, the Congress in Meghalaya will get a huge jolt. Three years ago, another former Meghalaya Chief Minister, D.D. Langpang, left the Congress and joined the state’s ruling NPP.

Incidentally, before the 2004 Lok Sabha polls, former Meghalaya Chief Minister and former Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Purna Ajitak Sangma left the NCP and joined the TMC.
