On the death anniversary of Tantia Bheel, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to the independence warrior on Sunday.

Rahul Gandhi was joined in Madhya Pradesh by Kamal Nath, a senior party official and a former chief minister of that state. With the aid of arrows and slings, Tantia Bheel used to stop British trains in Patalpani, which is at least 25 kilometres away from Indore. After stopping the trains, Bhil would steal their cash, jewels, food, oil, and salt to distribute among the people.

On Saturday morning, Rahul Gandhi and other party officials and supporters, including Kamal Nath and Namdev Das Tyagi (also known as Computer Baba), resumed the “Bharat Jodo Yatra” from Mahudiya village.

The Yatra will traverse seven districts in Madhya Pradesh in 12 days after arriving on November 23.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra is expected to enter Rajasthan this evening after travelling through portions of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra so far.

Congress’s sources claim that the yatra will end on January 26, 2023, in Kashmir after travelling a distance of roughly 3500 km.

“Congress was going to end this yatra by hoisting the tricolour in Srinagar on February 20, but now, under the new strategy, Rahul Gandhi will conclude his yatra by hoisting the tricolour in Srinagar on Republic Day,” said sources.

The new Congress Working Committee will be constituted when the new Congress Party President Mallikarjun Kharge’s name has been confirmed at a plenary session of the Congress scheduled to take place after January 26 and before February 7.

Major adjustments that have been pending and delayed for a while will also be made to the party structure shortly after the committee is formed.

Notably, the 3,570-mile Bharat Jodo Yatra, which started on September 7 in Kanyakumari, would traverse an additional 2,355 kilometres. Next year, it will conclude in Kashmir. The Congress asserted earlier in a statement that it is the longest march on foot by any Indian politician in India’s history.

The assembly elections for this year’s elections were a disaster for the Congress, and the Yatra is seen as an effort to galvanise the party’s base for the forthcoming elections.
