Union Minister for State Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, provided detailed insights to Lok Sabha on Tuesday regarding the rehabilitation of Kashmiri migrant families who had to relocate from the valley due to security concerns. Responding to queries by Lok Sabha MP Kalaben Mohanbhai Delkar, MoS Rai highlighted crucial statistics and the measures undertaken for their resettlement.
According to data furnished by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, 46,631 Kashmiri migrant families, constituting 1,57,967 individuals, are registered with the Relief Organization (Migrant), J-K. Additionally, several Kashmiri migrant families have moved to different parts of the country.
Rai emphasized the government’s efforts to facilitate the return of Kashmiri migrants, stating that 5,675 individuals from these families have been provided government employment. To accommodate those employed in the valley, 6,000 transit accommodation units are under construction, with 880 flats already completed.
Furthermore, a dedicated online portal was launched by the Jammu and Kashmir government in August 2021, allowing Kashmiri migrants to register grievances online, addressing issues such as encroachment, change of title, mutation, and distress sales. This initiative has resulted in the retrieval of 2924 Kanals and 19.55 Marlas of land.
The government has also extended essential support to these families by issuing ration cards to those without them and providing Ayushman Sehat Cards to registered migrant families seeking domicile certificates. Social security schemes like Ladli Beti and marriage assistance have been extended to these families.
Moreover, the administration has implemented online services for registration and certificate issuance, resulting in the issuance of 160,856 domicile certificates, 2,035 Resident of Backward Area (RBA) certificates, 902 EWS certificates, and 31,672 migrant certificates.
These measures, aimed at reintegrating Kashmiri migrants and ensuring their well-being, underscore the government’s commitment to their rehabilitation and empowerment.
