Be it sports, IT or banking sector or government jobs , women are touching new horizons bringing laurels to the country but contrary to this, women are lagging far behind as compared to men in the field of technical education in Haryana . The official information clearly indicates the women’s decreasing interest in technical fields as a sizable chunk of sanctioned seats for women in the Industrial Training Institutes (IIT) is lying vacant in Haryana. Despite the continuous efforts of the government as well as the concerned department , the girl students do not seem much interested in taking admission in technical courses being taught in ITI’s in Haryana. Notably, the government has set u[ 36 ITI’s separately for women.

The statistics pertaining to the same tabled in the recent assembly session depicted that a total of 7328 seats are sanctioned in the ITI’s for women in all the districts and of these, as may as 6197 girls students are enrolled in the session 2023-24. Out of the total seats, 1121 seats are vacant which is more than 15 percent of the total seats. Despite the continuous and additional efforts made to encourage girl student s to take admission, the scenario remains unchanged and in such a situation, the same has forced the officials to mull over the factors responsible for not filling up the posts. It is worth noting that even after the concerned department gives additional opportunity to the students to apply for admission on the vacant seats, the seats remain vacant.

Ambala, Bhiwani, Fatehabad, Nuh and Hisar are among the districts with more than 100 percent seats lying vacant each against the sanctioned seats. Besides, more than 50 percent of the total vacant seats do fall in districts as revealed in the data. As many as 147 seats in Bhiwani, 128 in Nuhan, 117 in Fatehabad, 112 in Ambala and 108 seats in Hisar remained vacant in women’s ITI. Apart from these, 70 and 58 seats are vacant in Karnal and in Rewari respectively. Although, the government is encouraging girl students to take admission in technical courses, the results are still not as per the expectations.

Despite the incentive funds being given to the girls students, in the institutions, the ITI’s have failed to fill the sanctioned seats which is a matter of serious concern. It is worth mentioning that women have expressed less interest in the field of technical education than men.

In a bid to fill all seats in the ITI’s, the list of additional efforts to woo the girl students includes free monthly bus pass as well. Apart from this, the facility of getting the girls students studying in ITI’s free passports is also available after the students submit details pertaining to their bank account number, Aadhar card and other information to ITI. As a part of the scheme initiated for the students, an amount of Rs 1500 will be deposited in his bank account from the government.

Apart from this, employment oriented courses are also available in ITI;s in a bid to ensure the timely jobs for the students after the students pass out and the list of courses included. Mechanic Auto Body Painting, Mechanic Agriculture Machinery, Mechanic Auto Electrical, Computer Operator and Programming Carpenter, Machinist Grinder, Fitter, Machinist, Plumber, Welder, Turner, Mechanical Diesel Engine, Stenographer English, Electrician. Wireman.

After completing the related course in ITI, employment opportunities open up for the candidates in government sector and private companies also. Since skilled candidates are now being given priority in employment in every field, employment opportunities are also bound to increase. Apart from government jobs, after completing the course, candidates can also start their own business.
