White House Lauds US-India Ties as ‘Most Consequential,’ Highlights Quad Collaboration

Lauding US-India ties, the White House on Monday emphasized the importance of the relationship between the two countries. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated that President Joe Biden views the US-India relationship as one of the most consequential globally. She highlighted the close collaboration between the two nations on critical priorities, including the Quad (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue) and the US-India initiative on emerging technologies.

Jean-Pierre said, “So look, the president views our relationship, the United States’ relationship with India, as one of the most consequential in the world. And so we work closely with India on our most vital priorities, including through the Quad and the US-India initiative on this critical and emerging technology.” She further noted the US’s intention to expand its “critically important partnership” with India to benefit both nations and foster a more prosperous and secure Indo-Pacific region.

The US maintains a diplomatic partnership with India, Australia, and Japan through the Quad, which is dedicated to supporting an open, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific that is inclusive and resilient. The Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting on July 29 in Tokyo saw participation from US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa, and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to upholding international order and advancing a positive and practical agenda for the region’s sustainable development.

The joint statement from the meeting read, “We look forward to India hosting the next Quad Leaders’ Summit later this year, and to the United States hosting the next Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting in 2025.” It emphasized the bloc’s collective efforts to support the Indo-Pacific region’s stability and prosperity, promoting free choice in cooperation and trade based on partnership, equality, and mutual respect.
