Israel has signed on to the most recent US-supported Gaza ceasefire offer prior to it being formally put to Hamas, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed on Thursday.
The offer was put forward to the Palestinian terrorist group by US President Donald Trump and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff following Israel’s endorsement.
Leavitt stressed continued diplomatic efforts in a press conference, saying, “We hope that a ceasefire in Gaza will occur so we can bring all of the hostages back home.”
Asked if Hamas had agreed to the terms, she said, “Not to my knowledge.”
The ceasefire plan is an extension of ongoing US efforts to calm the conflict and free the hostages. Negotiations continue with global attention now shifting to Hamas’ reaction as pressure builds to end hostilities.
The Biden administration has been similarly cautiously optimistic, drawing attention to the role of diplomacy in the region.
