The United States launched 13 airstrikes on Hodeidah’s port and airport, according to Al Jazeera. The report cited Al Masirah, a TV channel affiliated with Yemen’s Houthi rebels.
These attacks came just days after US forces struck Ras Isa oil port, another key site in Yemen.
Strikes Kill Civilians in Sanaa
Meanwhile, airstrikes hit al-Thawra, Bani Matar, and al-Safiah districts in the capital, Sanaa. According to Al Masirah, at least three people died, and four others suffered injuries. CNN also confirmed these details through the same source.
Ras Isa Attack Causes Heavy Casualties
Earlier on Thursday, US forces targeted the Ras Isa oil facility. This strike caused major loss of life.
Anees Alasbah, spokesperson for the Houthi-run Health Ministry, said the airstrikes killed at least 74 people and injured 171 others.
US Says Strikes Target Houthi Revenue
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the strikes aimed to block the Houthis from generating income through fuel. The US accused the rebels of using oil revenues to fund violence.
In a post on social media, CENTCOM stated, “Today, US forces took action to eliminate this source of fuel for the Iran-backed Houthi terrorists. The objective of these strikes was to degrade the economic source of power of the Houthis.”
Houthis Refuse to Back Down
Despite the airstrikes, the Houthi rebels vowed to continue their military operations. They said they will not stop until Israel ends its assault on Gaza and lifts the blockade.
In a statement quoted by CNN, the group said, “Yemen will not back down from continuing its support operations for the Palestinian people until the Israeli aggression on Gaza stops and the siege is lifted.”
Trump Vows “Overwhelming Force”
Earlier, US President Donald Trump warned of strong retaliation. He said Washington would use “overwhelming force” until it stops the Houthis from targeting ships in the Red Sea.
