President Zelensky On Ukrainian Independence Day: War Has Come Full Circle, ‘Returned’ To Russia

on Ukrainian Independence Day, President Volodymyr Zelensky made a bold statement against Russia, asserting that while Russia sought to “destroy” Ukraine, the conflict has come full circle. Zelensky delivered his message from a location near where Ukrainian forces executed a surprise incursion into Russia, signaling a significant turn in the ongoing conflict.

A Symbolic Location

Zelensky’s address was filmed in a remote, wooded area in the Sumy region, not far from where Ukrainian troops made headlines on August 6 by crossing into Russia’s Kursk region. The President highlighted that this location was emblematic of Ukraine’s resilience and its ability to surprise its adversaries.

A Message of Retribution and Justice

In his address, Zelensky emphasized that the war, initiated by Russia’s invasion in 2022 with the intent to obliterate Ukraine, has instead brought the conflict back to its origins. He declared, “What the enemy brought to our land has now returned to its home,” underscoring a reversal of fortunes.

He warned that those who attempt to inflict harm on Ukraine will face consequences on their own soil, framing this not as a threat or act of revenge, but as a matter of justice. “Anyone who wants to sow evil on our land will reap its fruit on their territory,” he stated.

A Direct Challenge to Putin

Zelensky did not shy away from directly challenging Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling him a “sick old man from Red Square” who is perpetually threatening with nuclear escalation. Despite the dramatic incursion into Kursk, Zelensky noted that it has not deterred Russia’s continued push in eastern Ukraine.

As Ukraine marks its 33rd year of independence from the Soviet Union, Zelensky’s address reflects both a celebration of national resilience and a resolute stance against ongoing aggression.
