Kamala Harris’ Campaign Raises $36 mn Within 24 Hours Of Announcing Tim Walz As VP Pick

Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign announced it has raised $36 million within 24 hours of naming Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate.

This substantial fundraising achievement continues the trend of significant contributions for the Democratic presidential contender, which began after she officially declared her candidacy for the White House last month.

Stellar Fundraising Streak

Harris’ campaign revealed it raised $310 million in July, more than double the amount former President Donald Trump claimed to have raised during the same period.

Notably, $200 million of this total came within the seven days following President Biden’s withdrawal from the race and Harris’ subsequent announcement of her White House bid.

Harris’ Praise for Walz

On Tuesday (August 6) morning, Harris announced her selection of Walz to join her on the Democratic ticket, commending his record as a governor and his background as a veteran, teacher, and coach. The pair made their first joint appearance at a rally in Philadelphia.

The vice president lauded Walz as a partner “who can help build this brighter future, a leader who will help unite our nation and move us forward, a fighter for the middle class, a patriot who believes, as I do, in the extraordinary promise of America, a promise of freedom, opportunity, and justice, not just for some, but for all.”

The Pennsylvania event kicked off a series of campaign rallies for Harris and Walz in four key swing states. Their next stop was Wisconsin on Wednesday (August 7), followed by a visit to Michigan. Arizona and Nevada are next on the itinerary.

This cross-country tour comes shortly after Harris officially secured the Democratic presidential nomination on Monday (August 5), following the conclusion of the party’s virtual roll call vote of state delegations.

With her nomination, Harris has made history as the first woman of color to head a major party ticket.

The campaign aims to capitalize on this momentum, with Harris and Walz set to engage with voters across pivotal states in the lead-up to the election. Their strategy focuses on highlighting their vision for a united and progressive America, seeking to garner widespread support from diverse voter demographics.
