Israel Carves Out Morag Corridor, Says 30% Of Gaza Under Full Control

The Israeli military has announced a major shift in its control over the Gaza Strip, revealing the expansion of the “Morag Corridor” — a newly established division cutting across the southern region of the enclave. According to a military statement, the corridor now separates Rafah from Khan Younis and central Gaza, effectively isolating large parts of the strip.

A video infographic released by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) shows the corridor extending from the Rafah area up through Khan Younis. The footage also highlights the scale of destruction in Khan Younis, which appears to be nearly flattened with only a few damaged buildings still standing.

“Operational Security Perimeter” Encompasses 30% of Gaza

“As part of the operation, the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) has achieved full operational control over several key areas and routes throughout Gaza. Nearly 30 per cent of the strip’s territory is now designated as an Operational Security Perimeter,” said the IDF.

In addition to the “Morag Corridor,” the military had earlier established the “Netzarim Corridor,” a central Gaza buffer zone intended to isolate Gaza City and northern Gaza from the rest of the region.

Since March 2, Israel has blocked all humanitarian aid into Gaza. The ceasefire with Hamas that had held for two months ended on March 18, followed by a renewed and deadly military campaign.

Renewed Assault and Humanitarian Crisis

The IDF reported conducting airstrikes on 1,200 targets in Gaza using nearly 350 fighter jets and other aircraft since operations resumed. According to Gaza health officials, 1,652 Palestinians have been killed and 4,391 injured since March 18 alone. The total death toll in Gaza since the start of the war in October 2023 now stands at 51,025, with 116,432 people injured.

Israel continues to control all access to aid and supplies entering Gaza, worsening the humanitarian conditions.

ICJ to Open Hearings on April 28

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is set to begin hearings on April 28 regarding Israel’s humanitarian responsibilities towards Palestinians in Gaza. The hearings follow a UN General Assembly resolution passed in December, which called for the ICJ to provide an advisory opinion.

The resolution urges the court to clarify what obligations Israel holds in “ensuring and facilitating the unhindered provision of urgently needed supplies essential to the survival of the Palestinian civilian population.”

As the situation in Gaza grows increasingly dire, the world watches closely for the ICJ’s response and potential implications on international law and humanitarian action.
