Iran Warns UN of U.S. Responsibility if Israel Strikes Nuclear Sites

Iran has told the United Nations that it will hold the United States responsible if Israel carries out an attack on its nuclear facilities. Iranian diplomat Abbas Araghchi made this clear in a formal letter to the UN.

Direct Warning to Washington

In his message, Araghchi stated, “We believe that in the event of any attack on the nuclear facilities of the Islamic Republic of Iran by the Zionist regime, the US government will also be involved and bear legal responsibility.”

CNN Report Sparks Alarm

This warning followed a CNN report that cited unnamed U.S. officials. According to the report, Israel is reportedly preparing for a possible military strike against Iranian nuclear targets. The news raised tensions across diplomatic channels.

Trump and Netanyahu Talk Iran

At the same time, the White House confirmed that President Donald Trump had a “productive discussion” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Their conversation, held on Thursday, focused on Iran and the recent fatal shooting of two Israeli embassy employees in Washington, D.C.

IAEA to Review Iran’s Nuclear Program

Iran’s strong response comes just before a key meeting in Vienna. In June, the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Governors will review the status of Iran’s nuclear activities. This session could influence the future of the 2015 nuclear deal.

Snapback Sanctions Still on the Table

The 2015 agreement between Iran and world powers includes a “snapback” clause. This mechanism allows the UN to quickly reimpose sanctions if Iran fails to meet its obligations. Britain, France, and Germany have already warned that they might activate this clause if Europe’s security is threatened.

Iran Cautions European Powers

Araghchi also directed a stern warning toward Europe. He said that activating the snapback sanctions would carry serious consequences. He warned that the move would mean “not only the end of Europe’s role in the agreement, but also an escalation of tensions that could become irreversible.”
