As the national capital has seen a sharp rise in the number of coronaviruspositive cases, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has held three meetings in the last 36 hours to combine forces and fight Covid-19 effectively. The number of corona infected patients has crossed the 41,000 mark already, and as per Delhi government figures, in the last six days, more than 11,000 new cases have been recorded. From 9 June to 14 June, the figure has only ballooned. The spread of the virus has been steep, even as the Union Home ministry has stepped in and upped the ante.

Dr. Girish Tyagi, President of Delhi Medical Association, told The Daily Guardian: “Increasing figures are intimidating, but testing is also a reason for the increasing number of new cases. If there are more tests, more new cases will appear. It is right to come up with new cases, only then we can overcome this pandemic.”

Agreeing with him, Dr Arun Gupta, President of Delhi Medical Council, also said, “People do not have to be afraid of rising numbers. This is a good thing, with this practice, we can know the exact number and fix corona affected patients quickly.”

Asked about the rapid surge in positive cases, Minister of Delhi Government Satyendra Jain said, “More corona tests are being done in Delhi; due to this, the figures are rising. There is no need to be afraid. This virus spreads in big cities, where there are close community areas. We are taking strong action against this outbreak and, that is how we are able to treat the people infected with the virus. It has been spreading rapidly across the world. This has been the most infectious disease of all the diseases until now.”

Congress state president Anil Chaudhary told The Daily Guardian: “The figures are telling that the Delhi government’s system is completely failing, both the Centre and the Delhi government are involved.

Their failures indicate that the infection is steadily increasing. Be it a matter of testing, the case of beds or a matter of giving financial assistance to the people, the government has failed on every front.” Delhi BJP state president Adesh Gupta also blamed the ruling party’s mismanagement and said, “There were shortcomings of the Delhi government, due to which the cases continued to grow. The Government of India and Home Minister Amit Shah have taken effective steps, it is expected that the situation in Delhi will improve in the coming days.
