After a ban of two years Facebook and Instagram accounts of former US President Donald Trump will be reinstated by Meta.

Earlier on 6 January 2021, following the capital riot, Trump’s accounts on Facebook and Instagram were suspended by Meta.

Meta’s president for global affairs Nick Clegg explained the decision and said, “In the event that Mr. Trump posts further violating content, the content will be removed and he will be suspended for between one month and two years, depending on the severity of the violation.”

“Like any other Facebook or Instagram user, Mr. Trump is subject to our community standards,” Clegg wrote

Meanwhile, at the time of suspension, Trump’s account on Facebook was the most followed one with hundreds of millions of followers.

Moreover, on 7 January 2021, in Trump’s support, hundreds of people stormed the Capitol after which Meta suspended Trump’s account along with YouTube and Twitter, which were also deactivated that week.

“The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated. Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” tweeted Musk.

However, earlier Twitter CEO Musk started a poll asking the users whether he should reinstate the account of Trump or not, in which 15 million Twitter users voted in the poll with 51.8 percent voting in favor of his reinstatement.
