After winning the sixth T20 World Cup title on Sunday, Australia’s skipper Meg Lanning has surpassed great names including MS Dhoni and Ricky Ponting, and became the most successful captain in the history of the sport with five ICC trophies.
Meg achieve this milestone on Sunday in the final of the women’s T20 World Cup, played against South Africa. Australia scored a total of 156/6 in 20 overs while batting first after winning the toss. The Australian bowling line-up was able to defend the total and resisted South Africa in their homeland to win their first-ever ICC trophy, defeating them by 19 runs to win the T20 World Cup.
As a skipper, Lanning has successfully won a total of five ICC tournaments. The tournaments include the ICC Cricket World Cup 2022 and the 2014, 2018, 2020, and 2023 editions of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
Following Lanning, the second most successful captain is legendary Australian batsman Ricky Ponting, who has won four ICC trophies which include, the ICC Cricket World Cup of 2003 and 2007, and the ICC Champions Trophy of 2006 and 2009. After Ponting in the third position, India’s most successful captain and veteran wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni has captained India in all three formats of ICC tournaments. Under Dhoni’s leadership, India have won the first edition of the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007 and India’s second ICC World Cup title in 2011 after 28 years. The last title Dhoni clinches under his captainship was the ICC Champions Trophy
in 2013.
