A meeting of the district-level task force, formed to stop illegal encroachment and unauthorised colonies, was held in the auditorium of the District Secretariat on Thursday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Sushil Sarwan. The Deputy Commissioner gave instructions to identify unauthorised colonies in the district and demolish illegal constructions on a priority basis.

District Town Planner Rakesh Bansal was also present at the meeting. The Deputy Commissioner directed the officers of the Police Department, stating that the concerned Station House Officers (SHOs) should keep a close watch in their respective jurisdictions and ensure that where illegal structures or colonies have been demolished, no construction takes place again without prior permission. He instructed the District Town Planner to share the list of such structures and colonies with the Police Department.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the executive engineers of the National Highway Authority and the Public Works Department (Buildings and Roads) to take action and submit reports against illegal encroachment in the restricted area of 30 meters along the scheduled roads outside the controlled areas. He also instructed the police department that there should not be any delay in registering FIRs against illegal encroachment. The District Town Planner’s Office and the Police Department should work in coordination so that the campaign against illegal encroachment can be successfully completed.

Along with reviewing the action taken on the decisions made in the last meeting, the Deputy Commissioner asked for details of the actions taken by the District Town Planner’s Office against illegal encroachments and unauthorized colonies in the district in December 2023 and January 2024.

District Town Planner Rakesh Bansal informed the Deputy Commissioner that two demolition drives were conducted in December 2023 and three in January 2024. He mentioned that by conducting a campaign in December, two unauthorized colonies were identified, out of which one colony in Maddawala was demolished on December 27, 2023, while in the other case, a complaint was sent to the police department for registering an FIR. He said that in December 2023, seven illegal constructions were identified in Barwala controlled area and peripheral area, out of which four illegal structures were demolished, and a notice was issued in one case. Similarly, in the cases identified under the Urban Areas Act in December 2023, a letter has been written to the police department to register a case against six culprits.

Apart from this, a complaint has been sent to the police to register an FIR against 10 culprits who violated the Controlled Area Act and Periphery Act in January 2024. He mentioned that in January 2024 itself, the police department was recommended to register FIRs against the culprits in two cases of violation of the Urban Area Act.
On this occasion, ACP Surendra Singh, Executive Engineer of Public Works Department (Buildings and Roads) Ashish Chauhan, Executive Engineer of UHBN Lalit Atre, Assistant District Attorney Sanjeet, Anup Kumar, and other concerned officers were also present.
