Anjali Birla, daughter of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, became an IAS officer by passing the UPSC exam on her first try in 2019. She is presently serving in the Ministry of Railways.
In August 2020, the Department of Personnel and Training created a Reserve List that included Anjali Birla’s name along with 89 candidates from diverse categories such as general, OBC, EWS, and SC.
According to the DoPT statement, “The commission was also maintaining a Consolidated Reserve List in order of merit below the last recommended candidate under the respective categories, in accordance with Rule 16(4) and (5) of the Civil Services Examination Rules.”
Education Qualification
Anjali completed her schooling at Sophia School in Kota. Following that, she pursued Political Science (Honours) at Ramjas College, University of Delhi. During this period, Anjali began her preparation for the UPSC exams and successfully cleared them on her initial attempt. She is presently employed at the Ministry of Railways.
After achieving success in her exams, she shared how her father’s influence led her to pursue a career in civil services, while also drawing inspiration and motivation from her elder sister.
IAS Anjali Birla was reported by PTI saying, “I am very happy to have been selected in the exam. I decided to enter the civil services to do something for society because I saw my father’s dedication to the people of the country.”

Anjali Birla also leads a balanced life where her personal and professional worlds intertwine harmoniously. Married to Rahul Birla, a successful entrepreneur based in Delhi, their partnership reflects mutual support and shared values.
