After the hype caused by Moo Deng, another new comer is stealing headlines: the golden tiger cub of Thailand has named Ava.

Ava belongs to the rare golden or strawberry tiger breed, with outstanding golden coloration in her mane. Her particular coloring comes through recessive genes, and such coat colorations are so rare that less than 100 exist in the world today. Chiang Mai Night Safari is privileged enough not only to host Ava but also her sister Luna, who is five years older and sports the same exquisite coat.

Though Ava is technically still a cub, it’s hard to overlook how large she’s becoming. The animal was born in 2021, so she and Luna are still just three years old. Facebook photos from the zoo show Ava’s remarkable growth – she dwarfs her zookeeper companion. Her fur is bright and exciting, but one wonders at her innocent expression, like an oversized kitten – though one suspects her wild nature ensures no one would want to leave her alone.

Much like Moo Deng in Khao Kheow Zoo, Ava and Luna are soon establishing themselves as higih light spots at Chiang Mai Night Safari. Visiting them is strongly advised now before the crowds get too large.
