Mechanical Sweeping of the Mohali MC roads will be resumed soon as the tender called for the purchase of four new machines is in the final stage, said MLA Kulwant Singh, here today.
He said that earlier the Municipal Corporation, Mohali used to clean the category A roads of the city through mechanical sweeping. The contract came to an end on 15 Feb 2022, consequently rendering the MC to manual sweeping.
MLA Mohali (SAS Nagar) further said to maintain the cleanliness of the city roads, it was felt to resume the sweeping mechanically. To resolve the issue, a proposal was prepared by the Municipal Corporation to clean the category A and B roads of the city using imported machines for mechanical sweeping. This also Includes 5 years of operation & and maintenance will also be done by the company along with the supply of machines.
He said to arrange funds for the same, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Minister of Housing Construction and Urban Development Department, in which it was decided that the cleaning of the A and B roads of the city should be done by mechanical sweeping because in the past the cleaning was being done very smoothly with mechanical sweeping and there were no complaints from the public regarding cleaning. It was decided in the meeting that for the purchase of four imported machines for the mechanical sweeping of the city, funds will be made available separately to the Municipal Corporation.
MC Commissioner, Mrs Navjot Kaur said that the tender called for the purchase of machines twice and second time, two companies have submitted bids. The financial bids have also been opened, and the eligible company will be given a release order for the supply of the machines shortly. She said that due to the concerted efforts of the MLA Kulwant Singh the estimated 10 crore project would see the light soon to provide the residents relief in cleanliness. were made for purchasing the said machine.
