On Sunday, a grand event was organized by the Haryana Legislative Assembly to commemorate Constitution Day. On this occasion, the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Gian Chand Gupta, read the preamble of the Constitution from the website of the Central Parliamentary Ministry and obtained a digital certificate. He then had the officers and staff of the Legislative Assembly read it. Prior to this, he paid floral tributes to the statue of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution, installed in the Assembly building.
While addressing the gathering at this event, Vice-Chairman Gian Chand Gupta said that from the beginning of his tenure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken many effective steps to strengthen constitutional institutions and values. The organization of events like Constitution Day is part of that series. He urged citizens to remain aware of their fundamental rights under the Constitution, emphasizing compliance with the fundamental duties outlined in Article 51 of Chapter IV of the Constitution. He highlighted the importance of citizens being vigilant not only about their rights but also about the basic duties mentioned in the Constitution, Section 4(k).
Gupta stated that today the entire country is expressing gratitude to the framers of our Constitution. On this day in 1949, the builders of our Constitution completed the construction of the world’s largest written constitution. On November 26, as representatives of the entire nation in the Constituent Assembly, the people of India accepted and dedicated it.
He said that by working under this constitution, great India has continued to progress relentlessly. The achievements of India today owe much to the Constitution. This constitution is not only the world’s largest constitution in terms of size but also its practicality, acceptability, and farsightedness make it the world’s most ideal constitution.
The main reason for this is that our constitution makers, while being the best connoisseurs of law, also understood the intricacies of modern India and its eternal values. It not only outlined a clear vision for the new India but also made our role effective in the global society. Under this constitution, India adopted a parliamentary democratic system, which directly means the rule of the people. It entrusts all rights to the people, under which the people choose their representatives from among themselves. It is these representatives who, based on the majority, form governments. They not only form governments but also keep a vigilant eye and control over them. In this entire system, the accountability of governments is ensured by the people who choose representatives.
Today, the world is advancing rapidly. The development of science and technology is at its peak. The pace of technological development is so rapid that the criteria for progress are changing every day. It becomes extremely important for India to maintain its honourable position in global society. In this case, the responsibility of the people and their representatives, legislators, and MPs becomes even more significant.
The statements given by the members of the legislative assemblies on this occasion cannot be challenged anywhere. In this system, where the responsibilities of legislators and MPs become extremely important, the role of the public should also be influential. The vigilant role of the public and representatives will make the democratic system balanced.
On the occasion of Constitution Day, Speaker Gian Chand Gupta called on the people and representatives to carry out their roles with complete skill and keeping the national interest in mind.
