The Horticulture Department employees of the Municipal Corporation are set to stage a massive protest on January 19, 2024, in front of the Municipal Corporation Office in Sector 17. The demonstration aims to voice their long-standing demands and express dissatisfaction with the officers› negative attitude towards these requests. A preparatory rally was conducted in Sector 16.
During the rally, Union President Harkesh Chand, General Secretary M Subramaniam, Sohan Singh, Hardeep Singh, and others addressed the crowd. Union leaders claimed that green belts and parks were being sold off. Accusing the officers of favoring contractors and making anti-employee decisions, the union leaders claimed that green belts and parks were being sold off. Despite numerous memorandums and demand letters, the officers were accused of acting arbitrarily and subjecting employees to harassment.
Among the key demands were the confirmation of all employees with ten years of service, equal pay for equal work, immediate filling of vacant promotion posts, action against officers failing to fill positions, prompt payment of pension, gratuity, and leave in cash to retired employees, and cancellation of decisions to privatize parks and green belts.
Additional demands included providing raincoats, gum boots, oil, soap, and uniforms to all employees, ensuring salary disbursement by the 7th of every month, settling arrears of revised salary for daily wage employees, granting bonuses to all employees, and providing permanent employees with revised pay scales and DA after 2016. The rally concluded with an appeal for widespread employee participation in the planned protest on January 19 against the continuous negative stance on their demands.
