MANY BJP LEADERS DON'T WANT BISHNOI TO JOIN THE PARTY

Anger continues to surface among the few leaders in the saffron BJP, particularly those who hail from Hisar, after Congress stalwart and an MLA from Adampur Kuldeep Bishnoi, son of former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, hinted at joining the BJP after being removed from all party posts over cross-voting in the Rajya Sabha elections which resulted in the victory of an independent contestant Kartikeya Sharma. Following the denial of the post of state party president, Bishnoi was upset with the party high command and was reported to be in constant touch with CM Manohar Lal.

After more than a month, neither he quit the Congress, nor the Congress expelled him which forced the political experts along with all party leaders to think over the issue. It is learnt that a string of BJP leaders opine that he should be made to join the party as it is likely to harm their political benefits. Be it Sonali Phogat who was fielded against Bishnoi from Adampur seat and failed to survive or Brijendra Singh, an MP from Hisar, who has defeated Bishnoi’s son Bhavya with a huge margin in Lok Sabha elections held in 2019.

As a mark of protest aforesaid leaders are leaving no stone unturned to depict their dissent. Following the hints of Bishnoi joining the BJP, Phogat is continuously active in her constituency and can be witnessed meeting commoners along with supporters in a bid to mark her presence politically. Pertaining to the issue, she used to say that Bishnoi will join the party; it does not matter at all as she emerges as the strongest claimant for the ticket in assembly elections. Further, she states that despite hailing from a family political legacy, Bishnoi failed to meet the expectations of the people of Adampur which is very disappointing. It is quite saddening that a four-time MLA and two times MP failed to rise to the occasions when it was required

In a reaction to this, Singh said that in case Bishnoi joins the BJP, it may not benefit the party on a large scale as the party has a stronghold in the area among the voters hailing from all communities, particularly backward class. Prior to this, as a mark of protest, he did not attend an International Yoga Day programme on 21 June which displayed his dissatisfaction. It is a noticeable fact that the BJP is known for not giving any kind of anticipatory commitment of giving tickets or any post in the party to the leaders quitting opposing factions and joining the party. Similarly, former union cabinet minister Birender Singh, father of Brijendra Singh, believes that the BJP enjoys a prominent space among the voters and in case Bishnoi joins the party, it is not likely to benefit the party in terms of political gains.

Apart from the above-mentioned, the Chautala family also has a stronghold in the area. Thus, the three dominating families carrying political legacy are at loggerheads in Hisar and it is evident from the history that these families were eyeball to eyeball in several assemblies and parliamentary elections. Notably, if Bishnoi joins the BJP, then he is likely to ask for a party ticket for the Hisar Lok Sabha seat or Adampur assembly seat, and this will have a direct impact on the political careers of Phogat and Brijendra Singh.
