Violence escalated in Manipur on Friday, with officials reporting a suspected rocket attack in Moirang, Bishnupur district. The projectile landed in the compound of former Chief Minister Mairembam Koireng’s home, resulting in the death of an elderly man and injuring five others.

“The elderly man was preparing for some religious rituals in the compound when the bomb exploded. He died on the spot,” an official informed PTI. A 13-year-old girl was also among those injured.

The explosion occurred two kilometers from the INA headquarters, where Subhas Chandra Bose’s lieutenant, Colonel Shaukat Ali, raised the flag for the first time on Indian soil in 1944.

This marked the second rocket strike in the district that day. Earlier, a rocket had been fired from a hilltop towards the low-lying area of Tronglaobi, about 45 kilometers from Imphal.
