A lawyer, Vineet Jindal, wrote a letter to Chief Justice of the Supreme Court requesting action in an incident in which TMC workers stripped a woman candidate of Gram Sabha in Howrah of West Bengal. In this letter petition, advocate Jindal stated that he would like to draw lordship’s attention to the recent incident in Dakshin Panchala, Howrah district of Bengal, where a woman Gram Sabha candidate was physically assaulted and molested by TMC workers. It is said that on the day of the Panchayat elections, the bullies stripped her naked and paraded the victim in the village. The allegations are against a TMC candidate and his supporters of the same Gram Sabha. An FIR was registered against them but no action was taken. This is a matter of grave concern as the accused belong to the ruling party.
The letter further states that “We have observed that the Hon’ble CJI has taken note of the serious and shameful incident that took place in Manipur where two women were paraded by goons in a video and the Hon’ble CJI has urged the Central Government to take action in the incident.” Lordship directed to do so and ensure that no such incident takes place in future.”
Jindal has also written in the letter that the incident that happened in West Bengal is as shameful and inhuman as of Manipur incident. This act is shameful for the whole country and if strict action is not taken, such incidents may increase in future.”
A woman candidate of a Gram Panchayat had accused Trinamool Congress workers of molesting and assaulting her.
This whole incident happened on July 8, the day the Panchayat elections were held in the state. The victim woman candidate alleged that Trinamool workers stripped her naked and paraded her in the entire village. The victim had named many people including Trinamool candidate Hemant Rai, Noor Alam, Alfi SK, Ranbir Panja Sanju, Sukmal Panja in her complaint. But the police did not take any action.
Before concluding the letter, Advocate Jindal has prayed to the Chief Justice of India that, His Lordship would like to issue directions to the State Government of West Bengal as well as the Central Government so that such inhuman incidents can be stopped.
