In a suspected case of honour killing, a newly married couple was attacked by unidentified men, killing the man on the spot and injuring his wife, in Saroornagar of Ranga Reddy District in Telangana.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night. The couple identified as B Nagaraju (25), a private employee, and Syed Ashrin Sultana alias Pallavi (23), a homemaker, both residents of Marpally in Ranga Reddy district.
According to the police, The deceased Billipuram Nagaraju, who belongs to the SC-Mala Community, and Ashrin Sulthana of the Muslim community were in love for more than five years. They were classmates from School and both studied in the same school and college. She is the sister of the accused Syed Mobin Ahmed.
Sensing that his sister was in love with the deceased, Mobin Ahmed warner her. On 30 January, she came out of her house situated at IDPL Colony, Balanagar by leaving her mobile phone in her house itself. On the next day Nagaraju and Ashrin Sulthana got married at Arya Samaj in Old City, Hyderabad. On February 1, her family members filed a missing case in Balanagar PS.
Since then, the accused developed grudges against the deceased. The accused Mobin Ahmed and Masood Ahmed hatched a plan to kill the deceased anyway. The accused followed the deceased on their scooter and found the victims at Panjala Anil Kumar colony, Saroornagar.
All of a sudden, they stopped the deceased while the deceased and his wife Ashrin Sulthana were proceeding on their bike. Mobin Ahmed pushed him to fall on the ground and started beating with centering iron rod over his head indiscriminately, Mobin Ahmed then gave the centering iron rod to Masood Ahmed and took a knife which was carried by him and started stabbing, and Masood Ahmed hit with centering iron rod over the head of deceased. Thus Mobin Ahmed and Masood Ahmed brutally murdered the deceased by beating him with centering iron rod over his head and stabbing with a knife. After confirming his death, they fled away. A case was registered and both the accused were arrested within hours of the crime and remanded to judicial custody on Thursday.
The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports that a 25-year-old man was brutally killed in broad public view at Saroornagar in Hyderabad by his wife’s brother and another person in a case of suspected honour killing on 4th May, 2022.
The Commission has observed on the basis of the media reports such heinous crime in broad public view without any fear of law indicates towards lawlessness and amounts to gross violation of human rights. Accordingly, it has issued notices to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, Telangana calling for a detailed report in the matter within four weeks.
