West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who arrived in Delhi on Monday, said before leaving Kolkata that the main issue she would raise with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during her meeting with him is the extended jurisdiction of the Border Security Force.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, “I have a meeting with the Prime Minister on Wednesday. I am going to talk about several issues concerning the state. I am going to talk about the issue of BSF in particular. I will not allow the force to occupy the territory. The BSF is not my enemy. But every organisation has its own identity. The state police is responsible for maintaining law and order in the area. Everyone has their own jurisdiction. But now BJP is using the agencies for their own party.”
At the same time, Mamata Banerjee expressed her frustration over the political violence in Tripura in which several or her party members have been attacked.
In Tripura, not only the Trinamool Congress, but all the media are being silenced, CM Banerjee said. She added: “Similar incidents are happening everywhere in Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam. It is very unfortunate. Abhishek Banerjee has gone to Tripura. Saayoni, Kunal, Arpita, Bratya are all there. People will answer in the elections.”
Banerjee alleged that the BJP has become so aggressive that it does not bother to comply with the Supreme Court’s order. She said: “We always respect the order of the court. But I see in Tripura that the court’s instruction is not being obeyed. I urge the Supreme Court to take legal action against those who disobey its orders.”
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court will take up the hearing on the TMC’s plea on Tuesday. The court had earlier asked Tripura police authorities to ensure that no political party was prevented from exercising their rights in accordance with law for political campaigning in a peaceful manner.
Tension in Tripura increased after violent incidents in the run-up to the elections to the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and 12 other municipal bodies slated for 25 November. TMC earlier alleged that several people sustained injuries after an attack on the residence of Trinamool Congress Tripura unit’s Steering Committee chief Subal Bhowmik in Bhagaban Thakur Chowmuni area of Agartala on Sunday.
