DARJEELING: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday surprised people by beginning to prepare and serve “phuchka”, also called ‘gol gappe’, at a stand in Darjeeling. The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) members’ swearing-in is the reason the chief minister is spending three days in the mountain town. The internet’s attention has been drawn to a video of Mamata Banerjee preparing “phuchka” and serving it to children and bystanders. Mamata Banerjee can be seen in the now-viral film managing a “phuchka” shop on Mall Road in Darjeeling. She prepared the “phuchka” and gave it to the bystanders. The chief minister handed the kids street snacks, which they can be seen enjoying. In March, locals at a momo stand were caught off guard when Mamata Banerjee visited Darjeeling. She offered to assist the momo-making sellers. On social media, a video of CM Banerjee stuffing the momo with filling and wrapping it went viral.
