‘You better make CM [Mamata Banerjee] the Governor while appointing her as the chancellor. Perhaps, only then you will get peace,’ West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar said, pointing towards Bratya Basu.

On Sunday, with a tinge of sarcasm and reproach, West Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankhar suggested to state education minister Bratya Basu to make chief minister Mamata Banerjee also the governor of the state in his plan to bring the TMC supremo to head the universities.

This comes days after Basu threatened to replace Dhankhar with Mamata Banerjee as the Chancellor of all the universities in the state for his alleged nosiness in the matters of the education department.

Dhankhar also took a dig at Biman Banerjee in the wake of his complaint to President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi against his interference in the legislative matters.

Recently, West Bengal Legislative Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee wrote a letter to President Ram Nath Kovind alleging hindrances created by Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar in the smooth running of the House. Though the speaker did not reveal the details, sources in the Assembly said the letter, also addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has mentioned several instances when Dhankhar delayed the process of legislation.

Dhankhar, amid this, asked the speaker to respect his post and mind his role.

“I was very much astonished to see the education minister, who was supposed to consult with me, talking about making the CM the chancellor. You better make the CM the governor while appointing her as the chancellor. Only then you will perhaps get peace. This behaviour is incorrect,” Dhankhar said while targeting the state education minister.

And while criticizing the recent actions of Biman Banerjee, Dhankhar said: “The Assembly Speaker should maintain the dignity of his chair. He is not aware of his rights and responsibilities both. I visited the Assembly twice and delivered my address to the House according to the Constitution. But on both occasions, the Emergency came to mind because my speech was blacked out.”

“Before that, when I went to visit the Assembly for the first time and collect information, it was kept under lock and key. None of the queries, which were sent to the Assembly to gather information, has been responded to till date. Such conduct of the Speaker can not be countenanced,” the Governor added. With agency inputs
