Earlier this month, Punjab Police had registered an NDPS case against Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia. A case was registered under the strict provisions of the Act, and later he had filed an application in the Mohali Sessions Court seeking anticipatory bail.

Following the hearing of the case, Additional Sessions Judge Sandeep Kumar Singla dismissed Majithia’s bail plea. On Monday, Majithia approached the High Court through his lawyers. Majithia’s counsel Arshdeep Singh Cheema said that the next hearing of the bail case in the High Court would be on December 29.

The Shiromani Akali Dal said that the case registered against the Akali leader was a case of vengeance and the government had to “change and appoint DGP, Advocate General and three Ads” to register a case against Majithia.

Congress led-government took this action under the pressure of its own leaders to harm the political future of the Akali Dal and especially Majithia by making this case before the elections, Cheema said.
