Maharashtra’s Covid tally nears 1 million, India crosses 44L mark

Maharashtra, which has become a hotbed of politics in the country, is reeling under the coronavirus pandemic. The worst-hit state recorded 23,466 cases in the last 24 hours (highest in the country) taking the Covid tally to 9,90,795 cases. This is also the second-highest spike of coronavirus cases and the state is expected to cross the 1-million mark very soon. Meanwhile, the country also recorded a massive spike of 95,735 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the total number of infections to over 44.65 lakh. India also recorded the highest deaths in a day with 1,172 fatalities. Delhi also reported its biggest single-day spike with 4,308 new Covid-19 cases and 28 deaths in the last 24 hours, while 2,637 people recovered from the disease. The total coronavirus cases in the national capital has now risen to 2,05,482 including 4,666 deaths and 1,75,400 recoveries.

Uttar Pradesh recorded 2,529 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The total active cases now stand at 21,003. Haryana reported a spike of 2,591 fresh Covid-19 cases and 25 deaths in the last twenty-four hours. Total number of coronavirus cases in the state stands at 85,944 including 907 deaths & 18,332 active cases. West Bengal reported 3,112 new Covid-19 cases, 41 deaths and 3,035 discharges in the last twentyfour hours. The total cases in the state has risen to 1,93,175, including 3,771 deaths and 1,66,027 discharges. The active cases now stand at 23,377.

Coronavirus surge continued in southern India. Karnataka recorded 9,217 fresh Covid-19 cases and 129 deaths in the past 24 hours. The total coronavirus caseload in Karnataka is now 4,30,947, including 6,937 deaths, and 3,22,454 recoveries. The number of fresh coronavirus cases being reported in Tamil Nadu continued to rise at an alarming rate with 5,528 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours.
