Jitendra Awhad, a leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), has been charged by the Maharashtra police with assaulting a moviegoer and forcibly interrupting the screening of the Marathi film “Har Har Mahadev” on Monday night in a multiplex in Thane, Maharashtra.

Former Maharashtra minister and NCP MLA from Mumbra constituency in Thane district, Jitendra Awadh, defended the forced halt to the Marathi film’s showing by stating that  “the movie has claimed to represent historic events that never transpired in fact. Why should such a film be broadcast?”

In this context, the Maharashtra police have filed a case against the NCP leader and his supporters.

At the Vartak Nagar police station in Thane district, a first information report has been filed under numerous sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the former minister Jitendra Awhad and over 100 NCP workers.

They stated that no arrests have been made thus far.

Abhijeet Deshpande is the writer and director of the 2022 Indian Marathi-language epic historical action drama film Har Har Mahadev.
