The Madras High Court on Wednesday issued notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on a bail petition filed by DMK Minister V. Senthil Balaji. Balaji was arrested by the agency in connection with a money laundering case in June. Justice G. Jayachandran, before whom the bail petition filed by Balaji came up for hearing, ordered issuing notice to the ED and posted to October 16, for further hearing of the case.
Senthil Balaji was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on June 14 in connection with alleged irregularities in the selection of bus conductors, drivers, and junior engineers within the Tamil Nadu Transport Department. These appointments took place during Balaji’s tenure as the Transport Minister in the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) government between 2011 and 2015. Balaji later aligned with the DMK in 2018.
It is worth noting that his bail petitions had been rejected twice previously by a local court. Balaji, who is currently incarcerated at Puzhal Prison, underwent a health check-up at a government hospital on Monday.
