Lieutenant General Prit Pal Singh has assumed command of the Sudarshan Chakra Corps, succeeding Lieutenant General Vipul Shinghal, Sena Medal, as the 28th General Officer Commanding. Before taking charge of the Sudarshan Chakra Corps, he held the position of Major General Staff at Headquarters Southern Command.

The General Officer has received commendations for his exemplary dedication and distinguished service, including the Vice Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card during his tenure at the Military Operations Directorate, the General Officer Commanding in Chief Western Command Commendation Card during the command of 62 Cavalry, the General Officer Commanding in Chief ARTRAC Commendation Card during his time at Army War College, and the General Officer Commanding in Chief Southern Command Commendation Card during his staff tenure at Headquarters Southern Command.

Hailing from Nago Ke village in the Sirsa district of Haryana, the General Officer studied at Sainik School, Kunjpura, Karnal from 1977-1979 and later attended Moti Lal Nehru School of Sports, Rai, Sonipat from 1979-1985. A graduate from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi, he excelled in hockey, representing his school, college, and the Haryana state at the national level.

Commissioned into the 62 Cavalry of the Armoured Corps in December 1989, Lieutenant General Prit Pal Singh’s father also served in the same regiment from 1962-1968 and is a veteran of the Indo-China 1962 and India-Pakistan 1965 Wars. An alumnus of the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, and the General has had a career spanning over 34 years, undertaking active combat roles at various command stages in the Army.

He has attended prestigious courses such as the Defence Services Staff Course at Wellington, the Higher Command Course at Mhow, and the National Defence Course in Delhi. With extensive experience in diverse military theaters, including deserts and counter-terrorism operations, Lieutenant General Prit Pal Singh brings a wealth of knowledge to his new role.
