Swati Maliwal, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP, emphasized the significance of women’s participation in politics and urged them to vote as polling commenced for all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi. Maliwal, the former chief of the Delhi Commission of Women (DCW), stressed the importance of women’s involvement in politics in India.

“It is a very big day for democracy. I want to appeal to everyone, especially women, to come out and cast their votes,” said Maliwal after casting her vote in Delhi.

The AAP has been under scrutiny since Maliwal accused Arvind Kejriwal’s former personal secretary, Bibhav Kumar, of assaulting her at the Delhi Chief Minister’s residence on May 13. Maliwal filed a complaint against Bibhav Kumar on May 14, and he lodged a counter-complaint accusing Maliwal of gaining unauthorized entry into the CM’s residence and verbally abusing him. Bibhav Kumar was arrested by the Delhi Police on May 19 and is currently in custody.

The sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections is underway across 58 parliamentary constituencies in six states and two Union Territories. In Delhi, AAP and Congress, part of the INDIA bloc, are challenging the BJP, which won all seven Lok Sabha seats in the city in the last two elections. While Congress is contesting three seats, AAP is contesting four in Delhi.

Over 11.13 crore voters, including 5.84 crore males, 5.29 crore females, and 5120 third gender electors, are eligible to vote in this phase. Around 11.4 lakh polling officials are involved in conducting the election.
