Lok Sabha Election 2024 Result: Abhishek Banerjee wins by more than 7 lakh votes in Diamond Harbour constituency in West Bengal.
As the Lok Sabha Election 2024 Result comes to a close, let’s have a look at Abhishek Banerjee who is representing the All India Trinamool Congress from the Diamond Harbour constituency in West Bengal.
He is considered the de facto number two in the Trinamool Congress (TMC) for some years now, is currently making efforts to elevate his national profile.
His recent activities, such as accompanying Mamata Banerjee to Opposition unity meetings and representing the TMC in the coordination committee of the INDIA alliance, indicate a concerted effort to establish himself as a leader at the national level.
Rise in Politics
Abhishek has been a Member of Parliament since 2014, but his prominence within the TMC grew significantly following the party’s disappointing performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. After the party’s parliamentary seat tally decreased and the BJP made significant gains in West Bengal, Abhishek played a pivotal role in strategizing with poll strategist Prashant Kishor to rejuvenate the party’s prospects.
Following the TMC’s victory in the 2021 Assembly elections, Abhishek’s influence within the party further solidified. He was entrusted with overseeing the party’s expansion plans at the national level. However, the TMC’s attempts to establish a presence in states like Goa, Meghalaya, and Tripura faced setbacks.
Abhishek’s ascent within the TMC has not been without internal challenges, with some party veterans expressing dissatisfaction. Nevertheless, many within the TMC view him as the inevitable heir apparent to Mamata Banerjee.
Abhishek’s recent statewide yatra to bolster grassroots support and his involvement in candidate selection were credited for the TMC’s success in the panchayat polls in June. He has also been vocal in the party’s campaign against frozen Central funds, alleging retaliation by the BJP-led government for losing elections in West Bengal.
Abhishek casted his vote for Lok Sabha Election 2024 on June 1.
