Railway officials reported an unusual incident on Sunday as the locomotive of a Jammu-bound train became detached from its coaches in Sirhind, Punjab, sparking concerns among passengers and railway authorities alike.
According to initial reports, the detachment occurred shortly after the train’s departure from the Sirhind railway station, with the locomotive traveling a distance of three kilometers without its accompanying coaches. The incident raised questions about safety protocols and maintenance standards along the railway route.
Keymen, responsible for monitoring sections of the Delhi-Katra railway route, played a pivotal role in averting potential risks by promptly alerting the locomotive’s driver about the detachment.Officials familiar with the situation speculated that the detachment may have occurred due to loose coupling between the locomotive and its coaches. Following the alert, necessary measures were taken to reattach the coaches, ensuring the train’s safe resumption of its journey towards Jammu. Naveen Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager of Northern Railway, assured that a comprehensive investigation would be conducted to determine the root cause of the incident.
The inquiry aims to identify any systemic shortcomings and implement corrective measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
